Help keep Australia's oceans clean

Australia is home to some of the world’s most extraordinary marine ecosystems, boasting the iconic Great Barrier Reef, the Ningaloo Reef, and vast, diverse coastlines teeming with life. These habitats are not only beautiful but also crucial for biodiversity, providing a home to unique species like the weedy sea dragon, Australian sea lions, and over 1,500 types of fish.

Unfortunately, Australia’s marine ecosystems face a significant threat from litter. Studies show that every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in Australian waters, affecting marine life and harming ecosystems that are vital for the planet’s health. On average, Australians discard about 130,000 tons of plastic that eventually makes its way into the ocean, with 80% of marine litter coming from land-based sources. This waste is not just unsightly; it endangers marine animals that mistake plastic for food and can cause devastating damage to coral reefs.

Participating in our beach cleanup crew is more than just picking up litter; it’s a direct action in protecting and preserving these unique ecosystems for future generations. Every piece of rubbish removed from the beach prevents it from entering the marine environment, making a real difference in reducing pollution and protecting wildlife. With your help, we can keep Australia’s beaches and oceans vibrant and resilient.
